Udon Thani
Udon Thani is one of the largest cities in the country, The city, its suburbs and its province make one of the favorite choices for 'farangs' on the settlement trail. Living in Thailand does not always mean having to run the daily gauntlet of 'in-your-face' propositions and bloated prices aimed at Western visitors.
Because Udon Thani is not a tourism destination, you live here and enjoy the slower pace, friendliness and genuine hospitality for which Isaan is so well known, and all at normal prices. The cost of living is significantly lower than in other parts of the country and house prices are easily less than half what you would pay in and around Pattaya.
Communications too are excellent, with a train station providing a regular link with the capital, and budget airlines serving both of Bangkok's airports many times a day from Udon Thani International Airport just ten minutes from the town centre and the major housing developments.
Shopping in Udon Thani is among the best outside the capital. All the major malls and departments stores are here, everything can be found in the compact and charming city centre and there is no need to know Thai to get what you want.
